reusable bags are for more than just the grocery store

Before I share my newest cool idea with you all I would just like to say if you do not own reusable bags WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?! FYI they are only 99 cents at Whole Foods and they are pretty cute and decorative, I mean you could almost use them as a purse. You should leave now and go buy them. In fact since mine are the ugly old school ones I might even leave and go buy them...Anyways, back on topic...So ever since earth day I have been really trying to minimize my impact on the earth. I was earth conscious before then but now I'm on a mission to do everything humanly possible to be more green. Brian and I have been riding our bikes way more and I've sworn off flying because it requires more fuel to power a plane than it would if every single air passenger drove a hummer to thier destination (OK this isn't the real reason I've sworn off flying, but now I have an excuse not to face my fear, and isn't that a pretty crazy truth???) So I always use my reusable shopping bags when I go to the grocery store and I was feeling really good about myself until I realized thats the only place I take them. When I go to the salon and buy shampoo in bulk, or when I run to Target for one thing yet somehow come home with everything but what I went to Target for, or when I'm extremely hungover and all I need is a chipotle burrito, I come home with plastic and paper bags. And those huge plastic cost cutters bags and the paper chipotle sacks and those useless miniature plastic bags places give you when you havn't bought enough shit to deserve a full size bag are all adding up. And thats when it hit me. Why can't I use my reusable bag EVERYWHERE? The people at chipotle may look at me funny when I ask them to put my burrito in a giant Whole Foods sack, but who cares? And that way when you buy two burritos they won't put one on top of the other, they can go side by side in the reusable bag, and that way no one has to eat a smashed burrito (which for me is almost as grave a situtation as global warming.) Maybe the rest of you have already thought of this and already practice it and to you I say "Well arn't you the brightest crayon in the box?! Probably the bright green one made of 100% all natural recycled materials." But to those of you like me who up until now have not been so creative, you no longer have any excuse to not use your reusable bags for every purchase you make...

Hi, Shelley, Chicago had me look up your blog up because I do the reusable bag thing. In fact for Mother's Day last year I requested a canvas bag from the Fort Collin's Whole Foods and she got one for me, even though she thought it was rather lame and that I would much prefer a manicure (I wouldn't). I use these bags all the time, and carry one in my purse and have another 4 or 5 in the car. I just got a cool on from Trader's Joe that carries 6 wine bottles that has little dividers so the bottle don't break. Well, gotta go and tend to my compost pile! Just kidding, but that may be my next project. Oh, dear!
